Entry Plans

Entry to this role typically occurs through several pathways within the federal Public Service. The most common route is a career progression from an HR professional or recruiting position (such as Human Resources Advisor or Staffing Officer) to a supervisory role once you have demonstrated strong performance and readiness for management responsibilities. You may enter through open competitions advertised on the Public Service Commission's Job Bank or through internal DND recruitment processes. Some candidates transition laterally from other federal departments with relevant HR experience and supervisory credentials. If you are already a member of the Public Service in the HR or related fields, you may be eligible for priority consideration in competitions or internal mobility programs. For those new to the Public Service, you would typically start as an HR professional and work toward supervisory qualifications through experience and education. Some specialized recruitment pools or rotational development programs may offer accelerated pathways for high-potential candidates with relevant post-secondary credentials and demonstrated leadership potential.

Part-Time Options

Part-time and flexible work arrangements are generally available for supervisory positions in Resourcing Executive Services, though the extent varies depending on operational requirements and team structure. Many DND locations offer flexible hours, compressed work weeks, or job-sharing arrangements to accommodate work-life balance needs. Remote work options have expanded within the federal government and may be available depending on your specific duties and DND's operational guidelines. Core responsibilities such as team supervision, performance management, and strategic resourcing decisions may require some on-site presence, but administrative and planning tasks can often be performed remotely. Accommodations for part-time or flexible schedules are considered on a case-by-case basis and should be discussed with your manager and HR representative. As a supervisor, your availability during core business hours may be necessary to support your team and meet departmental commitments. Contact your local DND HR office or the Public Service Commission for specific information about flexible work options at your location.
