Your role involves balancing operational needs with fiscal responsibility, managing stakeholder relationships, and ensuring timely delivery of real property services across Defence installations and operations. This position offers the opportunity to influence property management practices at a strategic level while supporting Canada's defence mission through effective real property stewardship.

Government of Canada positions require Canadian citizenship and a valid security clearance (at minimum Enhanced Reliability). Once hired, you will receive departmental training in DND policies, Treasury Board directives, and real property frameworks specific to defence operations. The Public Service offers ongoing professional development through the Canada School of Public Service, including courses in management, negotiation, contract administration, and federal procurement. Supervisors are encouraged to pursue certifications in project management (PMP) or relevant real estate credentials to advance their career within the federal Public Service.
Entry Plans
Entry to this supervisor position typically occurs through competitive public service staffing processes. You may enter as a Supervisor directly if you possess relevant supervisory experience in real property management, contract administration, or a related field. Alternatively, many candidates progress from non-supervisory positions such as Real Property Officer or Administrative Officer, then apply internally when supervisor positions become available. The Public Service Resourcing Model may include priority pools for current federal employees, which can expedite the hiring process. Some candidates enter DND civilian careers through internship or graduate recruitment programs, then advance into supervisory roles after demonstrating performance and meeting Treasury Board group and level requirements. Lateral moves from other federal departments with real property or contract management experience are also common. To be considered, you must meet the linguistic requirements (English and/or French as specified in the competition), hold or be able to obtain the required security clearance, and demonstrate the competencies outlined in the job posting.
Part-Time Options
Part-time and flexible work arrangements are available for this supervisor role, subject to operational requirements and team coverage needs. Many DND civilian positions support flexible schedules, compressed work weeks, and telework options, particularly for administrative and management duties that do not require daily on-site presence. However, as a supervisor, you may need to be available during core hours to support your team and attend meetings with stakeholders. Remote work is possible for portions of your responsibilities, such as contract review, correspondence, and planning activities, though some duties—particularly team leadership and on-site property inspections—may require your presence at the Defence installation. Specific part-time and flexible arrangements are negotiated with your manager and depend on your team's operational tempo and the nature of real property agreements being managed. The Public Service promotes work-life balance, and eligible employees can access leave provisions including parental leave, compassionate leave, and other benefits under the collective agreement applicable to your classification.
