Advancement typically requires successful performance at the media relations professional level before moving into supervision.

Part-Time Options

Part-time and flexible work arrangements are available in some circumstances, though the Supervisor - Media Relations role typically operates on a full-time basis due to the need for consistent leadership and the unpredictable nature of media cycles. Remote work options have expanded across the federal Public Service, and many supervisory duties—such as team coordination, strategy development, and internal meetings—can be performed from home. However, some in-person presence may be required for media events, crisis situations, or team meetings. Specific arrangements depend on operational needs and individual agreements with your manager. Compressed work weeks or flexible hours may be negotiated where work can be completed within core business hours.
