Entry Plans

There are several pathways to enter a Supervisor - Financial Management position with DND: Public Service Competitions: The primary entry method is through formal public service competitions advertised on the Public Service Commission (PSC) website and Government of Canada job boards. These competitions are open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. As a supervisor-level position, applicants typically need to demonstrate relevant experience in financial management and supervisory or leadership capabilities. Internal Advancement: Many candidates advance to this role from lower-level financial management positions (Financial Analyst, Financial Clerk, or similar positions) within DND or across the federal government. Demonstrating strong performance, technical expertise, and leadership potential in these positions creates a pathway to supervisory roles. Lateral Moves: Experienced financial professionals from other departments or agencies can apply through competitions and may be able to transition laterally into DND roles if they meet the required qualifications and security clearance requirements. Student and Graduate Programs: The federal government offers post-secondary recruitment programs and student placement opportunities that can lead to permanent positions. Part-Time Options

Part-time and flexible work arrangements are available for Supervisor - Financial Management positions in many cases, depending on operational requirements and management approval. DND is committed to supporting work-life balance and has implemented flexible work policies across the organization. Remote work options have expanded significantly and may be available for portions of your work week, particularly for tasks such as financial analysis, report preparation, and administrative work. However, supervisory duties may require in-person presence for team leadership, meetings, and mentoring activities. Job-sharing arrangements may be possible in some circumstances, though the supervisory nature of the role may limit this option. Compressed work weeks and flexible hours are sometimes negotiable with your manager, subject to operational needs and collective agreement provisions. Eligible employees can also access leave provisions including parental leave, compassionate leave, and other supports under the Public Service Labour Relations Act. The department encourages employees to discuss flexible work arrangements with their manager and Human Resources advisor to find solutions that meet both personal needs and operational requirements.
