The selection process evaluates your relevant dental experience, supervisory capability, and demonstrated leadership skills. Lateral moves are common for experienced dental professionals already employed within the Canadian Armed Forces or other Government of Canada departments who wish to transition into a supervisory role. Internal candidates may be considered through priority hiring processes. Some candidates enter through acting or developmental assignments that provide supervisory experience before a permanent competition. Student or early-career dental professionals may begin as dental assistants or laboratory technicians and advance to supervisory positions after gaining several years of experience and demonstrating leadership potential. All candidates must meet security clearance requirements as required for DND positions.

Part-Time Options

Part-time and flexible work arrangements are available for Supervisor - Dentistry positions, though availability varies by location and operational requirements. Many dental facilities operate on standard business hours with Monday to Friday schedules, making consistent scheduling easier to accommodate flexible arrangements. Some supervisory duties may be performed remotely, such as administrative work, scheduling, and staff coordination, though clinical oversight and team management typically require on-site presence. Remote work options are limited for this role due to the need for direct supervision of clinical operations and patient care oversight. However, hybrid arrangements may be negotiable depending on your specific responsibilities and facility needs. DND offers various flexible work policies including compressed work weeks and schedule flexibility where operationally feasible. Eligibility for part-time or flexible arrangements should be discussed directly with the hiring manager and your supervisor, as requirements depend on staffing levels, patient volumes, and facility priorities at your specific location.
