A Responsible AI Analyst plays a critical role in helping the Department of National Defence develop, implement, and maintain artificial intelligence systems that are ethical, transparent, and aligned with Canadian values. You will work at the intersection of technology, policy, and governance to ensure that AI applications across defence operations meet rigorous standards for safety, fairness, and accountability.
In this role, you will assess AI systems for potential risks and biases, develop guidelines and standards for responsible AI use, and collaborate with technical teams, leadership, and stakeholders to embed responsible practices into DND's AI initiatives. Your work will include reviewing AI algorithms, documenting governance frameworks, conducting impact assessments, and providing recommendations to support decision-making. You will also stay current with rapidly evolving AI technologies and best practices to keep DND ahead of emerging challenges.

Training
You should have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, engineering, mathematics, policy, ethics, law, or a related discipline. Some positions may accept equivalent professional experience in AI governance, data analytics, or technology policy.
Valuable certifications and credentials include those in AI ethics, data governance, risk management, or responsible technology frameworks. Professional certifications from recognized bodies in machine learning or data science can strengthen your application.
Once hired, you will have access to ongoing professional development through the Canada School of Public Service, including training in AI fundamentals, government decision-making processes, and specialized workshops on emerging AI risks and governance approaches.
