Entry Plans

Entry to the Police Station Clerk position with the Government of Canada typically occurs through open Government of Canada staffing processes. The Public Service Commission advertises competitions on the Government of Canada Job Bank (jobs.gc.ca) and on the RCMP careers website. Most positions are advertised at the entry level (CR-02 or CR-03 classification), making this an excellent starting point for those new to the federal public service. You can also enter through the Post-Secondary Recruitment Campaign (PSRC), which targets recent graduates. Some positions may be filled through internal Government of Canada pools or lateral moves from other federal departments. Eligibility requires Canadian citizenship, security clearance, and the ability to obtain a Reliability Status security clearance. Once hired, you complete a probationary period during which you receive on-the-job training at your assigned detachment or headquarters unit. To apply, you must meet the advertised qualifications, which typically include the education requirements listed above and demonstrate essential competencies such as organizational skills, communication, and reliability through your resume, cover letter, and potentially through a selection process.

Part-Time Options

Police Station Clerk positions are primarily full-time roles within the RCMP, as police detachments operate across standard business hours and beyond. However, the Government of Canada does offer part-time and flexible work arrangements in some locations depending on operational needs and staffing availability. Remote work opportunities for Police Station Clerks are limited, as the role requires presence at the police station to receive the public, manage physical files, and coordinate in-person operations. However, some administrative tasks related to data entry or record management may be performed remotely in certain circumstances, subject to security and operational requirements. Flexible scheduling options such as compressed work weeks, flexible start and end times, or part-time arrangements may be available at some detachments. We encourage you to discuss scheduling options during the recruitment process with the hiring manager, as availability depends on local operational needs.
