Entry Plans

There are several pathways to enter this career with the federal Public Service. These competitions are advertised on the Government of Canada's official job board (Job Bank) and are open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. You may also enter through lateral moves if you currently work in the federal Public Service in related roles, such as information management, records management, or data management positions. Some departments maintain talent pools for information management roles, allowing qualified candidates to be accessed for positions as they become available. The federal government also offers student and early-career programs such as the Co-op Student Program and the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP), which can provide entry opportunities and a pathway to permanent employment. If you are transitioning from the Canadian Armed Forces or another government department, your experience may qualify you for direct appointment to appropriate positions.

Many Information Management roles in DND support flexible schedules and alternate work arrangements, allowing you to balance professional responsibilities with personal commitments. Remote work options have expanded significantly across the federal government. Depending on the specific branch and duties, you may be able to work from home for portions of your week or work fully remotely, provided you maintain connectivity with your team and can access necessary systems securely. Your manager and branch will determine the specific arrangement based on the role's requirements and DND's operational needs. If you require part-time or flexible arrangements, these should be discussed during the hiring process and can often be formalized in your employment agreement.
