As an NLP (Natural Language Processing) Specialist with the Department of National Defence, you will develop and implement advanced language processing technologies that support military operations, intelligence analysis, and defence decision-making. You will design, build, and maintain machine learning models that can understand, interpret, and generate human language across multiple contexts. Your work will contribute to modernizing DND's technological capabilities and enhancing operational effectiveness through intelligent automation and data analysis.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include developing and training natural language processing algorithms, conducting research on emerging NLP techniques and applications, collaborating with subject matter experts and operational teams to understand requirements, and testing and validating models for accuracy and performance. You will work with large datasets, programming languages such as Python and Java, and industry-standard NLP frameworks and libraries. You will also document your work, present findings to stakeholders, and provide technical guidance to other team members.

While much of your work involves independent technical problem-solving, you will regularly engage with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions meet operational needs.
