As a Mason with the Department of National Defence, you will construct, repair, and maintain masonry structures on military bases and facilities across Canada. Your work involves laying bricks, concrete blocks, and stone using mortar, grout, and other bonding agents to create durable walls, chimneys, arches, and other structural elements. You'll be responsible for reading blueprints, measuring and cutting materials, and ensuring all work meets building codes and safety standards.
Your daily responsibilities include preparing work sites, mixing mortar and other materials to proper consistency, installing masonry units in straight lines and proper alignment, and tooling joints for appearance and weather protection. You may also perform restoration work on heritage structures, repair damaged masonry, and collaborate with other trades professionals such as carpenters and electricians on larger construction projects.
You will work in a variety of environments, from outdoor construction sites in all weather conditions to indoor facility maintenance work. The role requires physical strength, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety protocols. You'll work as part of a skilled trades team supporting the operational readiness of Canadian Armed Forces installations.
