Overview

As a Manager - Writing and Editing in the Department of National Defence, you will lead a team of professional writers and editors responsible for producing high-quality communications content across the organization. Your role involves overseeing the development, review, and publication of written materials including policy documents, reports, web content, internal communications, and public-facing materials that support DND's strategic objectives and operational effectiveness. Your responsibilities will include managing team performance and professional development, establishing editorial standards and quality assurance processes, coordinating with stakeholders across the department to ensure messaging alignment, and maintaining compliance with Government of Canada communications guidelines and Treasury Board standards. You will serve as a subject matter expert in writing and editing practices, providing guidance on complex communications challenges and representing the writing and editing function at the management level. You will work in a dynamic environment where clear, accurate communication is critical to organizational success. This role requires strong leadership capabilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining quality standards.
