Overview

An Internal Audit Clerk supports the audit and evaluation function within the Department of National Defence. You will assist internal auditors in conducting independent reviews of DND programs, operations, and financial management to ensure compliance with legislation and departmental policies. Working in a dynamic environment, you'll help identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations to strengthen organizational effectiveness and accountability. Your responsibilities include preparing audit documentation, collecting and organizing evidence, conducting preliminary reviews of records and transactions, and assisting with the development of audit reports. You'll work closely with audit teams across various DND units and directorates, interacting with personnel at different levels of the organization. This role requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Internal Audit Clerks play an important part in supporting DND's commitment to good governance, risk management, and accountability to Parliament and Canadian taxpayers.

Training

You should have a high school diploma or equivalent as a minimum requirement. Many successful candidates pursue post-secondary education in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field. Government of Canada training is provided to help you develop job-specific skills in audit procedures, DND policies, financial management systems, and relevant legislation. Professional development opportunities exist throughout your career, including certifications such as the Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or accounting designations.
