The Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation, offered by The Institute of Internal Auditors, is highly valued within the federal government. DND provides professional development opportunities to support continuous learning throughout your career. Entry Plans

There are several pathways to join DND's Internal Audit team as an Internal Audit Analyst: **Advertised Competitions**: The Department regularly posts competitions for Internal Audit Analyst positions through the Public Service Commission. These competitions are open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and other eligible candidates. Application processes typically include written assessments, interviews, and evaluation of your education and experience against the position requirements. **Public Service Pools**: Some Internal Audit positions are filled through established talent pools maintained by DND or the Treasury Board Secretariat. Successful candidates in these pools may be appointed without additional competition. **Student and Early-Career Programs**: DND participates in federal student work programs, including the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) and Post-Secondary Recruitment Campaigns, offering opportunities to gain experience while completing your studies. These programs can lead to permanent positions upon graduation. **Lateral Moves**: If you are already employed in the federal Public Service in accounting, finance, audit, or related positions, you may transition to Internal Audit Analyst roles through internal competitions or appointment processes, leveraging your existing federal experience and security clearance. **Bridging**: Recent graduates or individuals without prior federal service may enter through specific bridging programs designed to develop new talent in audit and financial roles.

Part-Time Options

Internal Audit Analyst positions with DND are typically offered on a full-time basis; however, the federal Public Service does support flexible work arrangements where operationally feasible. **Flexible Work Options**: Depending on business needs and departmental policies, some flexibility in work schedules may be negotiated. This could include compressed work weeks, staggered hours, or job sharing arrangements. Flexibility is determined on a case-by-case basis and requires approval from your manager and the department. **Remote Work**: The nature of audit work—which requires on-site visits to various DND locations to examine records and conduct interviews—typically involves working from multiple locations. However, significant portions of audit planning, analysis, and report writing can be performed remotely. DND has expanded remote work options for eligible positions, and arrangements depend on the specific audit assignments and departmental guidance. **Part-Time Opportunities**: Part-time Internal Audit Analyst positions are occasionally available but are less common than full-time roles. Part-time opportunities may emerge for specific, time-limited audit projects or as staffing needs fluctuate. To explore specific flexible work options, discuss possibilities with the hiring manager during the recruitment process or with your supervisor once employed. All arrangements must align with operational requirements and departmental policies.
