Entry Plans
There are several pathways to join DND as an Employee Assistance Program Policy Advisor. Most positions are filled through public service staffing competitions advertised on the Government of Canada job board (jobs.gc.ca). These competitions are open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. You may apply as an external candidate or as an internal candidate already working in the federal public service.
If you are currently a federal public service employee, you may be able to move laterally into this role from another HR position or through internal mobility programs. DND occasionally participates in HR leadership development programs that identify and develop talent for specialized HR roles. Recent graduates may find opportunities through co-op or student internship programs, which provide entry into the public service while building experience. Indeterminate and term positions are both available depending on departmental needs and competition requirements.

This position is typically offered as a full-time permanent or term appointment. Part-time and job-sharing arrangements may be available depending on operational needs and departmental approval. Many DND civilian employees benefit from flexible work arrangements, including the ability to adjust start and end times or compress work weeks.
Remote and hybrid work options have become increasingly available for policy and analysis roles. Depending on your specific assignment and manager's approval, you may be able to work from home for a portion of your week, particularly when conducting research or drafting policy documents. However, some in-person presence is typically required for meetings, consultations, and team collaboration. Specific arrangements are discussed during the hiring process and may be formalized in your employment contract or through departmental flexible work agreements.
