Overview

Electrical Engineering Technologists support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of electrical and electronic systems used across the Department of National Defence. Working alongside professional engineers and other technical specialists, you'll apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills to solve complex engineering problems that support Canada's defence and security objectives. Your day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with circuit design and analysis, conducting technical tests and troubleshooting, preparing technical drawings and documentation, and ensuring equipment meets safety and performance standards. You may work on projects ranging from communications systems and power distribution networks to radar technology and weapons systems. You'll work in laboratories, workshops, and field settings across Canada, collaborating with engineers, other technologists, and military personnel. The role requires attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in all technical work.

The Department supports pursuit of Professional Technologist (P.Tech) designation through Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or equivalent provincial bodies. You'll have access to technical training programs, certifications in specialized equipment and systems, and opportunities to develop expertise in emerging technologies relevant to defence operations.
