Drivers in the Department of National Defence operate and maintain various vehicles to transport personnel, equipment, and materials safely and efficiently. You will be responsible for operating vehicles in compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations, while ensuring passengers and cargo arrive at their destinations on time. As a Driver, you play an essential role in supporting DND operations across Canada and internationally, working in both garrison and field environments.
Your daily responsibilities include performing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, maintaining accurate logbooks and trip records, and communicating with dispatch and supervisors about vehicle maintenance issues or delays. You will transport senior military and civilian personnel, support training exercises, and assist with equipment delivery to various locations. Drivers must maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, and courtesy when interacting with colleagues and the public.
You will work in a structured military environment with clear protocols and procedures. While most work occurs during standard business hours, operational requirements may occasionally require shift work, weekend, or on-call availability. Training
To qualify as a Driver with DND, you must hold a valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicles you will operate—typically a Class 5 (standard passenger vehicle) or Class 4 (bus or commercial vehicle) license, depending on the position.
