As a Director of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, you will lead engineering teams responsible for developing, testing, and implementing advanced materials solutions for Department of National Defence operations and projects. You will provide strategic direction on materials selection, manufacturing processes, and quality assurance while ensuring alignment with defence capabilities and procurement objectives. This role involves managing multi-disciplinary teams, overseeing technical projects, and serving as the subject matter expert on materials engineering challenges across the organization.
Your responsibilities will include directing the planning and execution of materials research and development initiatives, approving engineering designs and material specifications, managing departmental budgets and resources, and liaising with industry partners, academia, and other government departments. You will mentor and develop engineering professionals, establish engineering standards and best practices, and ensure compliance with Canadian and international materials testing and certification standards.
You will work in a collaborative environment within Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) or similar technical organizations, combining laboratory work with office-based project management and strategic planning. Your work directly supports the operational effectiveness of Canadian Armed Forces equipment and infrastructure.
