Entry Plans

There are several pathways to become a Corporate Services Officer in the Department of National Defence. The most common route is through a public service staffing process (competition) where positions are advertised on the Government of Canada Job Bank. You can also enter through specialized recruitment pools that the Public Service Commission maintains for administrative roles, which allows you to be considered for multiple positions without competing each time. Student programs such as the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) and the Co-op Student Program provide opportunities to gain experience while studying. These programs often lead to permanent employment after graduation. If you're already working in the federal public service in a related role, you may be able to move laterally into a Corporate Services Officer position. Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and members of visible minorities are encouraged to apply, as the Government of Canada is committed to building a diverse workforce. Some positions may be filled through internal development or promotion of current DND employees.

Part-Time Options

Part-time and flexible work arrangements are available for Corporate Services Officer positions, though availability depends on operational needs and your specific location within DND. Many administrative roles support flexible schedules, compressed work weeks, and telework options. Remote work is increasingly common, particularly for tasks like report preparation, data entry, and correspondence—though some duties may require your presence in the office for meetings, file management, or in-person coordination. The Department of National Defence recognizes the importance of work-life balance and offers various flexible work options to its civilian employees. If flexible arrangements are important to you, you can discuss possibilities with your manager or the hiring team during the recruitment process. Availability of these options may vary by location and the specific needs of your unit, so it's best to confirm what arrangements are possible for the particular position you're applying for.
