Entry Plans

You can enter the Compensation and Benefits Coordinator role through several pathways within the federal Public Service. The most common route is through a Government of Canada job competition. The Public Service Commission regularly advertises Compensation and Benefits Coordinator positions at the federal level, including within National Defence. These competitions are open to Canadian citizens and may be advertised as open competitions or to specific groups such as current Public Service employees. You may also enter this career through lateral movement if you are already employed in the federal Public Service in a related HR position or through internal DND staffing processes. The Public Service also offers student internship programs and post-secondary recruitment initiatives that can lead to permanent positions. Part-Time Options

Part-time work is available for the Compensation and Benefits Coordinator role, depending on operational needs and department requirements. Many National Defence offices offer flexible work arrangements including part-time hours, compressed work weeks, and staggered schedules. Remote work and hybrid arrangements (combining office and home-based work) have become increasingly common in this role, as many coordination and administrative tasks can be performed from a home office with appropriate IT security measures. Flexible work options must be arranged with your manager and depend on the specific position and organizational requirements. Some roles with strong customer service or in-person coordination components may require more on-site presence, while others focused on data management and administrative support offer greater flexibility. Most positions can accommodate requests for work-life balance arrangements within operational constraints. Employees are encouraged to discuss flexible work options with their hiring manager during the recruitment process or once employed.
