Entry Plans

You can pursue a career as a Client Services Advisor with the Department of National Defence through several pathways: **Public Service Job Competitions:** The primary route is applying to advertised positions on the Government of Canada's Job Bank (jobs.gc.ca) and the DND Civilian Careers website. These competitions are open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and others eligible under federal hiring rules. You will typically need to submit an application, complete assessments, and participate in interviews. **Student Programs:** If you are a post-secondary student, consider the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) or the Post-Secondary Recruitment Campaign (PSRC), which provide valuable work experience and can lead to permanent positions. **Lateral Moves:** If you are already employed in the federal Public Service, you may apply for internal competitions or use the Priority Hiring List system, which can streamline the hiring process for existing public servants. **Pools:** The Public Service may maintain candidate pools for Client Services positions. Candidates selected into a pool may be offered positions without undergoing a full competition for each posting. We encourage you to check the DND Civilian Careers website and jobs.gc.ca regularly for current openings in your preferred location.

Part-Time Options

The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of work-life balance and offers flexible work arrangements for many Client Services Advisor positions, though availability varies by location and operational needs. **Part-Time Work:** Many DND locations offer part-time positions, which are ideal if you are pursuing studies, managing other commitments, or prefer reduced hours. Part-time employees receive prorated benefits including health coverage and pension eligibility. **Flexible Hours:** Depending on your assignment, you may have flexibility in scheduling your work week, including compressed work weeks or staggered start times. This is negotiated with your manager based on operational requirements. **Remote and Hybrid Options:** While some Client Services Advisor roles require on-site presence (such as reception or counter services), others—particularly those focused on phone support or administrative tasks—may offer hybrid or remote work arrangements. Remote work availability depends on your specific duties and will be discussed during hiring. When you apply for a position, the job posting will clearly indicate whether part-time work, flexible schedules, or remote options are available. We encourage you to discuss work arrangements with your manager during the interview process to find arrangements that work for both you and the Department.
