Entry Plans

To join the DND Civilian Workforce as a Citizenship Registration Examiner, you can enter through several pathways. The most common route is applying to a Public Service Commission (PSC) competition for this position. These competitions are advertised on the Government of Canada's Job Bank and the PSC website, typically accepting applications from Canadian citizens and permanent residents. The federal government also offers student programs for those pursuing relevant education, including the Student Work Placement Program and co-op opportunities. These programs provide valuable experience and may lead to permanent employment. Lateral moves are possible if you are already employed in the federal Public Service and meet the qualifications for the position. Your application will typically include a written assessment evaluating your ability to review documents, assess eligibility criteria, and make sound recommendations. Successful candidates advance to an interview stage where competencies such as decision-making, communication, and cultural awareness are assessed. Some positions may require a security clearance before final hiring.

Part-Time Options

Part-time and flexible work arrangements for Citizenship Registration Examiners depend on operational requirements and local office policies. Many DND and IRCC offices offer part-time positions, particularly for individuals seeking to balance work with other commitments. These positions typically follow standard business hours but may involve fewer hours per week than full-time roles. Remote work options have expanded in recent years. Some administrative tasks and report preparation may be completed remotely, though interviews with applicants typically require in-person attendance at an office location. Your specific remote work eligibility will depend on your position's security classification, the operational needs of your office, and your manager's approval. Flexible scheduling may be negotiated on a case-by-case basis, particularly for employees with demonstrated performance records. The federal government is committed to supporting work-life balance, and accommodations for caregiving, education, or health needs may be available through human resources. It is recommended to discuss flexible work options during the hiring process or with your manager once employed.
