Entry Plans

You can enter this career through several pathways within the Federal Public Service. The primary method is through open competitions advertised on the Government of Canada's Job Bank and internal Public Service recruitment platforms. These competitions may be open to Canadian citizens or may target current Public Service employees for internal promotion. If you are already a federal employee, you may also move into this role through lateral transfers or internal competitions, particularly if you have related audit, financial analysis, or accounting experience. Some positions may be filled through staffing pools established by Treasury Board or Defence to identify qualified candidates for future vacancies. For recent graduates or those new to government, student employment programs and co-op placements provide opportunities to gain experience within Defence's audit and evaluation teams. These pathways can lead to permanent employment once you meet all eligibility requirements, including your professional designation.

Part-Time Options

Part-time and flexible work arrangements are available for Chartered Business Valuators within Defence, subject to operational requirements and management approval. Many positions offer the flexibility to work compressed work weeks, staggered hours, or a combination of remote and office-based work, particularly for analytical and report-writing tasks. Remote work is increasingly available for business valuators, as much of the work involves financial analysis, database review, and report preparation that can be completed outside the traditional office environment. However, some aspects of the role—such as stakeholder meetings, presentations, and collaborative work with audit teams—may require in-person attendance at Defence locations. The extent of flexible and remote options depends on the specific position, team requirements, and collective agreement provisions. These arrangements are typically discussed during the hiring process and can be negotiated as part of your employment terms.
