Entry Plans

You can enter this career through several routes within the federal Public Service. Most commonly, positions are advertised through public competitions on the Government of Canada's Job Bank and the DND Civilian Workforce careers website. These competitions are open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. If you are already working in the Public Service, you may apply for positions through internal lateral moves or promotions. The Government of Canada also runs student work experience programs, including the Student Work Program and Internship Program, which provide opportunities to gain experience as an Architecture Clerk while still studying. You may also enter through recruitment pools created by DND to fill multiple similar positions. These pools allow the department to quickly fill vacancies based on qualified candidates already assessed through a competition process. Depending on your background, you might transition into this role from related positions in administration, technical support, or other engineering support roles.

Part-Time Options

Part-time and flexible work arrangements are often available for Architecture Clerk positions, subject to operational requirements and management approval. Many DND facilities support flexible hours, compressed work weeks, and job sharing arrangements to help employees balance work and personal responsibilities. Remote work options have expanded across the Government of Canada, and depending on your specific duties and location, you may be able to work from home for certain tasks such as document preparation, data entry, and administrative coordination. However, some responsibilities—such as coordinating site visits, attending in-person meetings, and accessing physical project files—may require you to work on-site. Specific remote work eligibility varies by position and manager discretion. We encourage you to discuss flexible work options during the recruitment process or with your manager once hired.
