There are several pathways to join DND as an AI Systems Integrator. Most positions are filled through open competitions advertised on the Government of Canada Job Bank (jobs.gc.ca) and the DND Civilian Workforce careers website. These competitions are open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents and include a structured assessment process evaluating your technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and fit with DND values.
The Government of Canada also operates student recruitment programs including the Co-op Student Program and Post-Secondary Recruitment Campaign for recent graduates. If you are already a federal public servant in a related role (such as a Software Developer, Systems Analyst, or IT Security Specialist), you may be eligible for a lateral move or internal competition to transition into this AI-focused position. These may include hybrid work models combining in-office and remote work, flexible hours, and compressed work weeks, subject to operational needs and management approval.
Remote work opportunities depend on the sensitivity of the work, the systems being accessed, and security requirements. Some integration and support tasks can be performed remotely, while others may require on-site presence at secure facilities. When applying for a specific position, the job posting will clearly indicate the work arrangement, location, and any flexibility options available. We encourage candidates to discuss flexible work options with their manager during the hiring process, as DND is committed to supporting work-life balance while maintaining operational effectiveness and security standards.
