Entry Plans
There are several ways to enter this career in the federal Public Service. The most common path is through a Public Service Commission (PSC) staffing process, where competitions are advertised on the Government of Canada's Job Bank and the DND Civilian Workforce careers website. As a student or recent graduate, you may be eligible for student employment programs or the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP).
If you are already employed in the Public Service, you can apply for advertised competitions or, in some cases, be appointed through an internal priority process. DND also participates in various recruitment initiatives and pools that may lead to permanent appointments. Lateral moves from related administrative or information management roles within government are common, and your experience in other departments may be valued. We encourage you to monitor both the DND careers website and the Government of Canada Job Bank regularly for current opportunities.
Part-Time Options
Part-time and flexible work arrangements are available for this position, subject to operational requirements and management approval. Many employees in this role work full-time on a permanent or term basis; however, the Department recognizes the value of flexible work and will consider requests on a case-by-case basis.
Remote work options may be available depending on the specific duties and DND's current workplace policies. Given that some aspects of this role involve handling sensitive information and accessing secure systems, some work may need to be performed in a DND facility. We recommend discussing flexible work arrangements, including part-time schedules and telework options, during the recruitment process and with your manager once hired. The Department is committed to supporting work-life balance for its civilian employees.
